How to Say “I Can” When the World Says “You Can’t”

Being told you can’t do something is disheartening if you don’t have the right attitude, and it seems like people love to tell others what they can’t do more and more every day. One thing you have to learn if you are going to overcome a hardship is how to tune out the world’s slings and arrows: because if you don’t, you can really become discouraged!

I’m a Catholic, so I draw my inspiration from my faith in God. Faith is important for a lot of reasons, but the biggest one is that it gives you hope in a future. No matter what your belief system is, try to have faith in something that inspires you to believe that there’s a plan for your life. You’d be amazed what this little thing can do.

It really is all about attitude: a bad situation can look completely different to two different people, and their response to the situation tells a lot about the kind of person they are. This is something you can develop in yourself: if it’s negative, try to envision it as a positive and see what happens from there.

Work Ethic

Being bitter and angry is easy, and working to overcome adversity is hard. That makes a lot of sense when you consider how most people respond to hard times. But you don’t have to be like them! You can outwork a problem, be it a health problem, a financial problem, or a psychological problem. Developing a work ethic is like any other habit: it takes practice and constant attention, but once you’ve got it it’s hard to lose.
